Looking for ideas what to do with this piece of boxelder. 6 1/2" tall, 17" x 20" oval shaped, it's dry. Bark is missing on one side. so natural edge is out. I thought about cutting it into two 3" cookies and make a couple endgrain platters, would have to use chainsaw as I only have 14" bandsaw. Anyone have any ideas ? Thanks.

End grain platters get really weak unless they are thick or there are rays for strength.
Pick up a 1/4 thick 17” diameter box elder platter with one hand on the rim edge It would likely break in two.
Also 2000 years of furniture makers have been hiding endgrain for a reason.

Dry wood that size o will often have cracks. Be careful as you turn it.

This is good wood for the globes in hollow ball ornaments. Box elder globe. Paduk finials .IMG_2384.jpeg

Cut it up for boxes, Balls, small goblets
Natural edge bowls without the bark would look good. A 6.5x10 blank would yield a nice shallow bowl

Have fun

I can see 6 or more small hollow forms that would look real nice.
