Brass Threaded Inserts for Box Lids

In the April 2019 American Woodturner , Jerry Johnson wrote an article entitled, A Cubic Muse . In the article, he references using a threaded brass ring for a box lid with a corresponding brass ring for the base. He also has a photo of the box he made with this set-up on page 36 (it's called Triple Play). Looks pretty neat to me.

Looks like a great way to have threaded lids on boxes. Does anyone on this forum use this technique? Does anyone know of a source for these corresponding brass rings?
 
If you search Amazon or E-bay I remember seeing a few sizes several years ago. I also remember seeing some of these thread sets in a wood working supply catalog at one time. Do a Google search on thread sets and you might find them, add wood working to the search phrase and you might have better luck getting a match. It took me a while using different search terms before I found them several years ago.
 
Hi Dan, I wanted to find a larger threaded brass insert for my urns and vessels and had trouble finding any big ones on the market. Tried the PVC and ABS versions and then figured out how to dress up some brass plumbing components. Some turners liked how they were made and so I started making and selling them on our Etsy site for woodturners who want the brass accent. It's just one way to add threaded lids to a vessel and they each have their own merits. I plan to make them as long as I can and it is enjoyable. http://www.fromwalnuttoantlers.com
