Does anyone know if Ron Brown's 20" Longworth has enough relief in the diameter to clear the bed on a PowerMatic 3520C? I have used his 12" model with the 1" thread diameter on my Laguna 12/16, sometimes with the donut chuck for oddly-curved rims, with great results for finishing my bottoms. As my PM 3520 is supposed to arrive next Tuesday, I wanted to go ahead and get the larger Longworth that will fit the 1.25"x8TPI spindle and increased size of the PM.

I have tried reaching Ron by phone and the contact form on his website, but haven't gotten any reply. Maybe he's just traveling for the holiday; hopefully not any health problem. The last thing I ordered from him by phone, he was extraordinarily gracious and helpful, and shipped my order immediately, and is the kind of old-school quality and customer service-oriented small business we all like to patronize. Hopefully I will hear back soon. I don't want to order this rather expensive accessory without knowing for a fact it will work. TIA for any info. on the chuck or Ron.

Y'all have a Happy Thanksgiving, and don't eat so much you can't get close to your lathe cuz you belly's in the way, lol! Aaron

After getting a vac chuck my RBB Longworth has a place in the garden shed. Game changing upgrade right there.

You can make a vacuum system a lot cheaper than buying the Longworth. I make them out of pumps taken out of dehumidifiers which are very quiet and seem to run forever for a total cost which is less than $40. You can make vacuum chucks easily for under $10 ea. Just an option.

Aaron, I agree with Randy, your best bet is to call RBB on Monday. Hopefully he's not still incommunicado. All I can tell you is that my 16" RBB Longworth 2 fits my 16" lathe with a few mm to spare.

(By the way, I also have his donut attachment for the Longworth, and that works well, too).

Thanks, all-I did a little closer reading of the specs, and the OD looks like 19.38", so I'm now pretty certain it will clear. In any case, I just ordered it based on that info. Mark-I got the donut kit too, as I got good results with the smaller 12" version.
Bill, I may hit you up for more info. on making a vacum system after I get everything set up and running (though I guess I'll be using that Longworth for the time being). Seems like the vac chucks would be good for irregular pieces and live edges that wouldn't work on the Longworth.
