I am solidly in the Thompson Lathe Tools camp as there is no better turning tool made, prices are more than fair and 10V steel is the best. My go to gouge has always been the 5/8 V. If you want to use carbide to go along with the Thompson tools there are none better than the Hunter carbides as they cut wood not scrape it. Both of these companies have a wide assortment of tools available and as stated are at the top in their fields.
