I am interested in purchasing a chatter tool. So far I have looked at the Sorby and the Dennis Stewart tools. The Sorby is a little bit more money and comes with different shaped blades. The Stewart has only the pointed blade. Does anyone have any recommendations about which tool I should choose? I plan to use it in my high school woodworking program where students would be the main ones using it. Thanks for your feed back.

Stewart Tool

Ken,
I have the Stewart tool and it works great. I know a turner who has sharpened both ends of the blade to give a differnt type of chatter. I think that eiher one would suit your purpose. BTW it only works on endgrain.

You can make one Cheap!

My dad made me one out of old saber saw blades. It works pretty well. Drill the hole in some steel a little bigger than the blade width and tap another hole perp to that add a handle and screw your in business.
