Finally completed ready for delivery next week, made with a mix of species and shapes , oiled and buffed.
Blackwood [Acacia Melanoxylon] Sally Wattle [Acacia Salicina] Paper Bark [Melaleuca quinquenervia ] and Pine.
Height 200mm [8"] to 125mm [5"]
The black half are converted Pillar candleholders, that set the tone of random shapes with a basic feature to identify each piece. I must admit after all the hardwood I normally turn the pine was amazing easy and sand, apart from that I probably wont doing a lot of pine gain for a while :)

Nice job. At some point, making a chess set has to be moved towards the top of my roundtuit list. Used to play as a kid, and it would be nice to have a set around the house.
yeah that was me, but the idea turning all the pawns the same kinda put me off etc. This I enjoyed due to the variation, but wont be getting into another any time soon

I do like the random shapes, I don't think they detract from their purpose at all. Nice job!

It is a large set. The board must be almost as large as that table they are set upon now. Is there any story behind that?
