Anyone from here planning on attending the Turn-On Chicago! symposium this July 29-31? I am looking forward to the in person gathering and maybe getting to meet some people I've known virtually.

It's a great lineup of featured demonstrators: Andy Cole, Cynthia Carden, Beth Ireland, Eric Lofstrom, Avelino Samuel and Jacques Vesery.

Covid-19 Statement​

Covid-19 status in the U.S. and specifically Illinois changes periodically and we cannot predict the future of this virus, especially for the July symposium. We will revisit information about the state of Covid-19 in Chicago and Cook County, and determine Covid-19 protocols for the 2022 in-person symposium. These protocols may include masking, social distancing or required vaccinations, and will be inclusive for registered attendees, demonstrators, vendors, volunteers, and staff. Chicago Woodturners will provide refunds to attendees and venders for a period of time if the protocols influence decisions to attend.​

Well stated, well covered. Thanks I went to our daughter's home and went unmasked for the first time. 3 days latter I had a whopper of a viral infection. 3 Covid tests latter and still negative, but certainly on my mind.
 
I wonder if we will ever have an "end point" - at which we try to return to life with masking - to do anything? Some encouraging news is that the current variant of COVID that is circulating is - for people who are otherwise healthy - little more than a cold. I can tell you this as a direct statement from a number of physicians I interact with - as well as personal experience. And, that is no surprise to most of us as we know from life experience the natural course of viruses is they become weaker and more contagious until finally - the naturally acquired herd immunity protects most of the population against the given virus - most of the time. No, there are no absolutes. But that is the way we have seen these things work.
I am not encouraging anyone to throw caution to the wind - I am not.
But, I confess - I think back to 1 day before COVID - and the CDC, NIH, and AMA were in agreement as being against the over-use of antiseptic soaps, and over cleaning/repeatedly using Lysol and other disinfectants....because the risk of weakening our immune response via over sterilization of our environment was real.

It makes one wonder........
 
I had a viral infection 20 years ago. Blinding headaches for a week. On Saturday of that week, my right eye was paralyzed. Spent 3 days in the hospital with every test from spinal tap to contrast MRIs. They sent me home with a strong run of steroids and told me I had a severe case of Epstein Barr. To this day, I still have some days of severe fatigue and have to take a nap after working hard for an hour. Long haulers with Covid are seeing the same symptoms. "Just a cold" has never been worse for some people.
 
Richard -sorry to hear of your experience with Epstein Barr. It is not as well understood as many other viral/neuro illnesses. The scariest aspect of COVID may be the un-predictability of how it will affect each individual. And, because of the range of variability of reactions to this bug, it creates a lot of confusion. That confusion leads to suspicion, then the conspiracies roll out....:rolleyes:
It is my hope we can one day return to a normal - as in before COVID - way of seeing each other's smiling faces and shake hands, exchange hugs, etc.....I say this because I have lost 5 friends to COVID. Some took it serious, and some did not. SO, I am sympathetic with all in their choices. My sincere hope is for our future gatherings and health of all participants.
