If I could show you how to own David Ellsworth's personal lathe would you be interested?

Wendy Ellsworth, David’s widow, has asked me to help sell David Ellsworth’s Robust lathes. At this moment there are 2 lathes available. Both are Robust Sweet 16 Short bed. Both are lightly used and were in excellent condition when David went into the hospital just before he died. I can furnish photos of each lathe. No glue, lacquer or paint were ever used on these lathes. They look like new.

Both have 2 HP motors. The short beds retail for $8,915 – will sell for $6,975. (They retail for $8,915 plus $1,100 shipping and tax)

All lathes must be picked up by buyer from David’s shop near Weaverville, NC. (Suburb of Asheville) You must bring your own helpers to load (three able body people required per the moving instructions). We have written instructions for disassembly and reassembly.

All payments will be made directly to Wendy Ellsworth.

Lathes sold first come- first served. If not sold before Wednesday, July 9, 2025, they will be consigned and delivered to Klingspor Woodworking Shop where tax will be added when they sell it.

You must contact John Hill by email johnhill345@gmail.com or call me at 828-712-6644.

Sadly I'm 2400 miles away.
Maybe you could con, er, convince one of us in the area to pick it up and store it until you can make the drive. Sounds like a great price. Unfortunately, (or fortunately when I look in my wallet) I can't use one myself.

I haven't been to Ellsworth's since he moved south but have been to Weaverville. There used to be a wonderful fiber processing plant in Weaverville (alpaca, etc) but sadly it closed. About a 3 hr drive from here.

Dang it. Now you tell me. I ordered my standard bed Sweet 16 a few weeks ago.

If this had posted earlier, I would have been on it like a duck on a June bug.

When I was lathe shopping, I excluded price and and the Sweet 16 checked every box I was looking for. Dang it again, my wife and I could have taken an Asheville vacation just because I needed to be in the area.

It won’t take long to sell and shouldn’t. 2 people will end up with new sweethearts.
