About 2 years ago, a club member gave me a gallon of Deft Step Saver. Never got around to try it out. Fast forward to last month, a club member retired and he donated a lot of things to the club. Chucks, tools, lots of projects like pizza cutters, ice cream scoops etc. He also donated about 8 one gallon cans of Deft Step Saver. At our club meeting today he showed us how he used it. Wipe it on, wait till it's tacky, then start wiping it off. I cut up an old bed sheet into pieces, we used that. My first impression is this is a good finish. He says he used to do up to 10 or more applications. SO, it takes some time... I don't even know if Deft still makes this. Nobody from the club bought a can... So I have about 9 gallons of it. Of course it is for all for sale. But, looks like I might buy a few cans for my shop... Would like to hear if anyone has used or still using this finishing method. It sure has paid off to be a 501(c)3 non profit organization! IMG_5612.JPG

Never heard of it, but the wipe off part doesn't sound attractive to me. Nine gallons should last several lifetimes.
When you come visit me I'll give you a gallon, LOL I'm going to post a Koa bowl now, I'm on my second coat of this Deft Step Saver... So far I'm liking it. I have several old bed sheets, I knew I was saving them for something. I cut pieces to apply it and to wipe it. Takes about 3 rags to wipe it clean. Have to be careful, this thing is flammable...

Richard is correct. it's a "stain/linseed oil/poly" combo. Minwax has a similar product called Polyshades. But, if i remember correctly (it's been 20yrs since I managed an Ace Hardware) the minwax product is not a wipe on finish. So I'm assuming the Deft has more oil than poly in the formula to allow for the wipe on process. The one you have is their "neutral" color which basically has no pigment.

Fortunately airlines don't allow flammable liquids. :D

Or any liquids for that matter, not even ice. For years I brought back fish from the Big Island in a cooler with ice. I used to taped it shut. Now, only the packs of gel ice are allowed and no tape...
