Can anyone give me some information on a Delta DL 40 lathe? It was bought new 10-12 years ago for around $2600 and I can get it for $800. I have not seen it since it is 3 hours away, but am told it is in good shape, and has not really been used that much. I was thinking about a Jet 1442 for around $900 or this one for $800. I am a newbie so which would be the best deal for someone starting out?

have you tried Google?

Jeff, I hadn't heard of it either, but a few seconds on Google suggest that the DL40 has a model number of 46-401. Which, according to another site is similar to the 46-400. The part diagram is here. A photo can be see here. A discussion on modifying that lathe can be found here
