Estate sale find

It might be a small skew with a rolled edge and a flat edge.

Flat edge facilitates cutting vees with the point down
The rolled edge lets the tool roll smoothly on the tool rest when cutting beads.
Yep, to my eye, too.

I first thought it was a type of skew but wanted to confirm it. The estate sale had items in the house, garage and out in the shed. There was a lathe setup and table saw in the shed.

I asked copilot (Ai search ) about the company and turning tools.
Your tool may have some value in the collector market.

The copilot response:
Yes, records and antique tool listings confirm that S.J. and J.B. Addis did indeed produce turning tools. Beyond their well-known carving and edge tools, there are documented examples of turning tools bearing the S.J. & J.B. Addis nameplate.

For instance, listings such as the one from Jim Bode Tools show an SJ & JB ADDIS turning tool featuring a 1/2-inch oval skew and a 1/2-inch spear point, designed specifically for woodturning tasks[^2^]. Additionally, another example is the Sheffield Made SJ & JB Addis 1/4-inch x 5/32-inch square end chisel, a high-speed steel chisel optimized for use in woodturning, which further confirms their engagement in producing quality woodturning implements[^3^].

These pieces, valuable to collectors and woodworkers alike, illustrate that the Addis brand extended its craftsmanship into the realm of turning tools alongside its more celebrated carving instruments. Such diversification is a testament to their skill and versatility in tool manufacturing during their time.
