Hi everyone,

Apologies for this delayed post. I've been swamped with work, and haven't had much turning time (or related) lately. Ugh! Anyway...

This month's challenge is to make a cookie jar! Thanks to @Webb Willmott for the idea. Cookie jars can be any number of designs, but I think the key element is a fairly wide body and opening, and a stable base. Of course, size your jar for your cookies. Oreos don't require as big of a jar as Oatmeal Creram Pies. Right?? In any case, Let's leave this fairly open-ended--your jar must have a lid, and be able to fit at least 3 hypothetical (or real) cookies. Side note, send me a batch of homemade cookies and I'll fudge the voting. That's a joke.... ;)

Here are a few boxes that may or may not be for cookies, but are still of an appropriate form (and very well done!). Made by @John K Jordan, @Curt Fuller, and @Phil Hamel, respectively.

Here are the challenge rules, as determined by AAW Forum legal counsel Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe:
  • Entries must be posted in this thread by 11:59 PM Coordinated Universal Time (ish) on Friday, February 27, 2026.
  • You can post up to two photos of your piece in this thread. Please don't crop your images tightly (meaning, leave a bit of room in the image so I can add your name later).
  • Your turning can be any size (as long as it can hold 3 hypothetical cookies), and can be embellished or natural. There are plenty of opportunities to get creative here, so feel free. Include the dimensions in your entry post.
  • As always, this is a turning contest, not a "moldy oldie" photo contest, so in fairness to everybody, make sure your work is something you have made since this challenge was issued on February 13, 2026.
  • You may not post any photos of your entry in this month’s challenge in any other thread or in the gallery until the voting has ended and a winner has been declared. Your are allowed to solicit information on mounting strategies though.
  • Voting will take place from February 28, 2026, through 3:59 am Coordinated Universal Time on March 2, 2026.
  • Solicitation of votes will result in disqualification.
The winner might have to pass a lie detector test before collecting the grand prize: this month we're going back to the classic dogleg spindle roughing gouge.

Good luck, have fun, make shavings, and let the chips fall where they may!!
