Does anyone know if a GAST DOA 163 AA pump would be sufficient for vacuum chucking?

DOA are diaphram types

they list DOA at the bottom with a small capacity of 1.9 CFM @ 60Hz, usually you want about 4 to 5 CFM.

Since that usually stands for Dead On Arrival, I think I'd pass on that model
As noted already, not near enough CFM for a turning application. You would need a perfect seal and very tight wood. Get something pourous like oak on the lathe and it'll likely launch if you sneeze at it.
Keep looking, Dog, and set your minimum at 5 CFM of free flow [meaning without pulling a vacuum]

Another reason to stay away from the diaphram pump is that the way diaphram pumps work will cause the flow to "pulse". This means you will have a variation in your vacuum pulled as the diaphram cycles (think of how a bellows operates). A rotary vane due to the number of vanes removes this variation.

Thanks everyone. I just found one locally that was way too cheap to beleive. I am grateful for the input. I am glad I held off and I will keep looking.
