There are two I'm considering. The right angle talon platform or the kodiak platform.

The Kodiak is out of stock and has the problems associated in other posts but is less money.

The talon is in stock but more money.

Anyone have experience with either one? Should I hold out and try to save $70 by waiting who knows how long on the Kodiak or should I bite the bullet and get the talon?

I have a Talon and really like it. Quick to adjust to different angles, repeatable, and solid. It's definitely pricey, but worth the money spent as far as I'm concerned.

I have the Kodiak platform and jig system. I really like the Large platform, it's sturdy and easy to get repeatable angles on both the platform and jig. I use the platform to hand grind the 40/40 gouge and the skews, I use the jig for the other gouge grinds I use. The platform pivots dead center on the 8"X 1,1/2" CBN wheel. The Kodiak jig must be used with 8" CBN wheels. I am not aware of any problems that you mention with this system, but I'm new enough to turning to not know enough of what I don't know.

The problem is not with the tool itself but rather the company selling it. I've been waiting for another product over the 6 weeks I was told it would be before back in stock from them. But if it never comes back in stock then I get impatient and buy elsewhere.

Oh okay you're referring to the fact that the woodturners wonders was sold and CS is no longer what it was. Yeah, that can be a non starter for me as well, I bought mine a few years ago before he sold the company. If the new owner can not get things in supply then there is no point I guess, right?

The right angle platforms are pretty solid. Yes, they are expensive, but costs on everything have gone up, a LOT. I would expect that if I was still making my robo rest, it would be in the same price range. You get EXACTLY the same repeatable angles on that platform. The Oneway platform is pretty weak. Most who use it have cut out a 1 3/4 slot to accommodate the wide CBN wheels, and there are a bunch of jigs for setting platform angles.

I've had the Talon long enough to have used it a lot and am very happy with it. Three things make it even easier to use.
1. Masking tape around your tool handle.
2. Permanent marker to notate on the masking tape the needed setting.
3.. Whiteout or paint to high lite the numbers and the foot of the support leg.
The higher cost was forgotten about within the first couple of uses. I think you will really like one.

I have the Right Angle Talon rail mount and it was worth every penny.
I also had Reed's great Robo Rest for the grinder for several years and the Right Angle is an improvement.
I've seen the Kodiak and used one and the Right Angle is far superior.

I have had the Oneway platform, the roborest and now own the Kodiak. I modified my Kodiak to have extra holes so it works like the talon. The talon is superior in my opinion but its hard to justify $179 when what I have works.

The Kodiak is supposedly out of stock for another 30 days. I was looking at the rail mount talon which is $199 but in reality I guess I can get the stand alone for $179 since I was going to set up another grinding station as well. Geesh then more cbn wheels... this is an expensive hobby.

If you have the oneway base I'd strongly recommend getting the rail mount. You can put a stop collar on it which makes it so easy to remove or change to the other grinder wheel if needed. The repeatability and convenience is really nice to have. For example, I can redress a NRS top bevel in 10 sec, change to the bottom bevel 70 deg and sharpen in another 10 sec.

I have the wolverine set up already on one grinder, the goal is to get another grinder and set it up with finer grit cbn wheels. Could get by I suppose with one grinder and switch everything around as needed but I like just being able to turn around and touch up an edge.

My setup now works but it's probably able to be a whole lot better (I hope).

My grinder has 2 180 grit cbn wheels now. One side is for bowl and spindle gouges and the other side is for scraper/srg. On the gouge side I have 2 stop collars on the rail. push one way for the bowl and then the other way for spindle. pretty handy but not if I want to remove the whole thing.

The other side is set up with the platforms. I have 2 platforms total, one set for the bowl scraper angle and another set for the spindle roughing gouge. both have stop collars on them so I can swap back and forth with repeatability. Somewhere in there I'd like to fit in a finer grit wheel so that's why I was thinking another grinder and might as well get a better platform while at it. (or just live with the 180 grit)
