Hello - I'm NEW

Hello!!

My name's Adam Howard, but folks just normally call me Ox. Mom always said I was a "bull in a chinashop", and I guess it carried on into old age.

I'm new to turning, and just got my Nova lathe back in September 04. Have made a couple bowls and loads of pens. I really like this turning thing.

I started out woodworking making small jewelry boxes, furniture, and the like, but only recently started turning.

Found out about this forum through a turners club meeting last night.

Some of you may know me from the woodworking.org forum under the same username.

Anyhow...Howdy.

Thanks for the welcome.

The finishes are:

Bubinga bowls - BLO and Beezwax
Ambrosia - Behlen's Woodturners finish
Sapele - Wash coat of shellac followed by a BLO/Tung/Poly blend

A note on the pommele sapele. Normally straight grained, it sometimes shows up as pommele or quilted. This was really expensive stuff!! But worth it I think. The odor as it's turned was like christmas trees and cinnamon. Neat. Turns easily, about the texture of mahogany.
