I will be a lead demonstrator at SWAT in Waco, TX next month. I'm flying out and with all the fees and everything related to luggage, I'm asking for some assistance, if available.

Specifically, SWAT does not furnish wood for the demonstrators, a policy I completely understand. But, for my demos (turning and decorating spheres), I really need dry wood, especially for the making of the spheres. For decorating, I figure I can stuff a few dried and ready to decorate spheres into the suitcase.

So, if are driving to SWAT and could bring some wood for me to use, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Please, let's not clog up the forum with the details, just email me at:

Thanks!

How about moving wood from one part of the country to another? What if your luggage is inspected or X-rayed? Curious.
Here in TN we are told not to transport even camping firewood from one county to another.

Bowlman asked for dry wood probably kiln dry. Since commercial lumber companies ship across the US kiln dry should be no issue. Firewood is actually the worst kind to transport, there is a major issue of Emerald Ash borer devastating ash trees. It originally came from Asia and is moving across states partly on firewood.

Wood that comes from Texas usually isn't a problem, but there are a few species that are a problem. One that I know about is oak wilt which is prevalent in parts of east Texas. Most people don't like to turn oak anyway so that shouldn't be a problem.

How about some more details about what size and species you would like. Do you want cubes or is "bark on" OK. I don't have any kiln dried wood, but I have mesquite that has been outdoors for years (In Texas that is probably the same thing as kiln drying). I'm about 80 miles from Waco, so we share the same pests.
