Fellow Genius,
Some of you might recall I have been struggling finding a way to turn bowls while sitting in my wheelchair. I have now bought 3 carbide tools from Mike Hunter. Holy Smoke. This is a whole new world. Mike Hunter, full of words of encouragement has been helping me along. Then Cindy Drozda mentions “maybe a hollowing System?” I go to work reading about every system I could find. I settled on and bought the Simple Hollowing System. I found the path. For me this system is GOLDEN. I hollowed out a bowl using the Simple arm and one of their Carbide tools (the new IV) and it was like cutting butter. I moved the arm aside and grabbed my Hunter Vicory that I bought with the handle. Now I was cooking with gas! Simple Hollowing also makes a very wide solid tool rest that really helps provide a stable platform for your tools. I did a complete hollow without a catch one. Now what? I am going to buy the same tools I have from Mike Hunter because they will fit into the Simple Arm assembly. I also will add several of the very cool tools the Simple Tools sell. FYI.. Doug Thompson Tools as well as Cindy Drozda tools fit into the 1/2” Simple Arm assembly well. If any of you folks out there are having trouble when hollowing a bowl or vessel take a good look at the several hollowing systems being sold. There are several excellent choices out there that you can choose from. I have several tools made by Thompson, Drozda, Simple and Hope Tools. Now that I have a solid hollowing system I cant wait to get back out to my lathe a get after it again. Hey! Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Thom Schuck, Portland, Oregon
