Hello all,
I've been reading about acrylic pen blanks and wondered if anyone has used "easy cast" to make them. I'm also a jewelry maker and embed antique postcards in this 2 part epoxy. It dries rock hard and crystal clear. It's considered the best for that application. I have a gallon of this and wondered if it might work for pen blanks. Would like to use this up... Any ideas or thoughts?
Thanks,
Veronica

I'm waiting for an answer as I build custom fishing rods and think this would make some fantastic reel seats.

For lathe turning applications, most home casters use polyester resin, like this stuff: http://www.delviesplastics.com/mm5/...GY&Store_Code=DPI&Category_Code=Casting_Resin

And here's a short how-to video on turning a poly resin pen blank: http://content.penturners.org/video/epr_sierra_high_res.wmv

Veronica: If easy cast is a poly resin or an epoxy resin, it will likely work well for pen blanks. Both poly and epoxy resins have their fans in the pen casting world.

easy cast

imho
I would think for reel seats it would be too brittle. for pen blanks i would think it would work out great.
just my two cents

Easy cast

Easy cast is a two part epoxy resin mixed at one to one. It has very little odor. I'm busy right now with my job and with getting some pens and crochet hooks ready for the upcoming months. (friends and family first!) I'm going to try some thin castings and crochet hooks first when I have a minute to spare. Can't lose anything!
Thanks to all who've chatted!

Allen, what is the basis of your answer? Acrylics are already used; different type of composition? Thanks in advance for your reply.
