Had a rough, but fun day in the shop. Seems the "blow up" fairy made a visit; did have intentions of a platter or two and larger bowls, but alas--not to be.
Funny thing though, the ones that self destructed I didn't expect--weren't obvious cracks etc---since I do like to work with rougher pieces.
I like Huisache because it turns well, and takes a finish nicely--plus the color is a change as well as the nice graining.
This box is 5.5 wide x 5 in tall. Used my normal friction polish. Sigh, someday I'll learn finials.

South Texas Acacia different than California Acacia!!!

Great little box David!!! I really like your design and think your top is perfect for the little box!!! I've attempted to turn a couple of boxes from Acacia grown in California, but I obviously didn't let them dry/cure long enough and they split... :>( Your's may be from a different type of Acacia as they turned (no pun intended... ;>) ) quite well! Thanks for sharing and safe turning to you!
