Nice work and recognition of your talents, Tim! What kind of wood is the big bowl in the bottom right pic? Just beautiful figure and coloring. Are we still down for next Tuesday, now that you're a famous artist haha?

Thanks Aaron-That is East Indian Rosewood. I have nice big log of that and some very curly Red Eucalyptus I need to get into soon....

And thank you Rusty!

That makes sense, as it actually has the orange-yellow bands common to cocobolo, a related favorite in the dalbergia family. Speaking of which, I've got another dalbergia chucked as we speak, an african blackwood clarinet bell blank that is going to be a gear-shift knob for my son's Miata. I love all those hard, oily tropicals. I like to make fancy straight razor and brush combos with them.

Just be cautious to protect your lungs and skin from many of the "exotic" woods. Some people develop sensitivities and allergies to them. Rosewood is known as one of those...so - it may also be true of it's cousins.....
I definitely wear a mask and have all dust extraction on. I haven't gotten sensitized to them "yet," though I know woodworkers who have. Cocobolo is the worst offender. I find just about any oily tropical wood to be potentially irritating. But then those oils are essentially a tree's version of insect repellent if I understand correctly.
