I made a website!

It looks nice, but there are some things that need improvement. A lot of vertical space is wasted and I think that the little scroll bar is too much like having to scroll the browser window. I would prefer to see a different implementation that made use of the whole window and not just the upper half and didn't have the scroll bar. I also don't care for the high key photography of the turnings. It seems to take away from the three dimensional quality. Also, the color balance doesn't seem right on some of the images. The focus seems to be somewhat soft in several images. A good website also needs to be designed so that it is fully compatible with various monitor sizes and different devices including iPads and other mobile devices.

Ben.......I've been aware of your work for a couple years now. You are definitely a very creative artist, a free thinker, and completely unique! I did have a little difficulty with the scroll left to right, but figured it out pretty quickly. Overall, the appearance does look professional. I know you'll keep fine tuning it, but it looks good for a start.

I know how much effort you're putting into your turnings, and it shows. My impression is you are selling yourself cheap. You may want to consider asking a price you'd like to get, rather than what you think they'll sell for. You can always lower your prices later, if you think that's an issue. People who buy art generally are willing to pay more, and sometimes the higher price is what sells art. I'd ask a higher price for them, but until you've established yourself, you won't want to get too aggressive.............yet!

Keep on, keeping on, Ben.......your turnings are special, and you'll age like fine wine. Keep in touch, and I look forward to seeing where you take your own unique style, in the future.......:D

Ben, I love your work and the uniqueness of each piece. As far as your web site is concerned I agree with the others about the navigation. Like Odie, I thought you prices were on the low side. The other thing that I think would be helpful is to give size, wood type and finish. Keep up the great work, For a relative newcomer to turning you are making amazing pieces.

Ben
I think the website looks very professional. Obviously, your turnings are incredible. I agree that I was floored at the prices.....In my humble opinion, 4x as much would be appropriate.

I was wondering if you used an on-line service to help create the website and whether you liked it. (if so, which service)

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Ben,

I too have started a website, only to have it get hacked . Have you had any such unwanted results?

Tom

PS - as others have noted, you need to up your prices....

Ben, I enjoyed the site very much. I agree with Odie that the navigation may not be intuitive at first, but it adds drama and in my opinion it's a good trade off.

Bill obviously has a keen photographer's eye, and I do not. But I like he minimalist style, the abundance of white space and the simple sans-serif font choice. The contrasting black and white text on the "about" page is a nice little touch.

By the way, I'm using an iPad to View although there is noticeable banding of some shadows, it looks quite good otherwise. And it's hard for me to view your turnings without being humbled by my own lack of skill!

I'm put off a bit by the stark white background on the gallery section. The softer colors in the shopping cart pictures is much more pleasant. You're off to a good start though.
