Jet 1442 live center dies...

I just bought a Jet 1442 and love the lathe, but when I mount stock between centers and crank down on the tailstock, the live center becomes a dead center, as if it seats to deeply in the taper and rubs against the metal housing (insert appropriate part name here). I put the live center from my Delta midi into the Jets tailstock and that one works fine--it stands off the metal tube by .063" or so. Has anybody had this problem with Jets live centers? Do I just need to return the part or am I doing something wrong.
Thanks!

Mine died too... but there is hope!

I own a Jet 1642. My live center on my tailstock also froze up. Poorly built bearings... I found out that Jet copied the design from Oneway and Oneway is still peeved over the situation. Anyhow, Jet is VERY kind and will send you a new one asap. - Yes you get to keep the old one as well as a back up or paper weight.

I was really blessed in that JET was out of standard Live centers and sent me their super duper live center -no extra charge. (the only diff. was the other live center has an extra large cylyndrical (spelling?) cup that is used when you need to hold ... insides of bowls or wine cups...etc.) pretty nifty.

CALL JET - they are very helpful.

this was in a thread titled "satified with my 1642" posted yesterday.

One thing that was funny: The rotating center that came with mine looks like a Oneway, but it turns out (according to Oneway) it's a copy.

I can't imagine anyone keeping the "factory" live center. The first thing I did was throw iT away and replace it with a OneWay.
