Greetings, I’m John DeCiantis, retired and living in Merida Yucatan, MX., where it’s always summer, sun shining, friendly people and a good supply of tropical hardwoods. I had a 40+ year career of restoration and remodeling of 17 and 18 century structures in south eastern Connecticut. I always had the desire to turn bowls and now I have the time. Here are some of my turnings. As a novice I still have catches and digs though my skills are improving. I trust I will learn much in this forum. Thank you

the plate is Bujon and bowl Tzalam

Welcome to AAW and the forum. I'm intrigued by the grain and color of the platter in the middle photo. Having lived in Queens, NY and seeing some of Long island, many people don't realize how old some homes are in New England. Trivia- Saw a house for sale on a trout river in upstate NY that was built in the mid 1700s.

Thank you John. There are many 1700,s left and some 1600’s.
The platter you site is Bojon. It’s a Maya name that we have not found a translation for in Spanish or English. The Latin is: Cordia alliodora. Boraginaceae. I’ve only seen info in Spanish.

Welcome to the forum. I'm also the administrator of a Facebook Spanish turning group, there are hundreds of turners in Mexico! I have a good friend in Cabo San Lucas: Carlos Cota Talamantes. I have been drooling over Ziricote wood, have you gotten any yet?
