Hello! I've been turning for probably around 20 years, off and on. Having kids slowed me down a little, but I managed by deprioritizing sleep, haha. I haven't been very engaged with the hobby the last couple years, mostly due to my feeling like I'd hit a wall with my skills. I'm self-taught via the interwebs. Earlier this month I attended a 3-day workshop with David Ellsworth at his home/studio, and now I'm feeling very much inspired and ready to push my skills. His low-tech approach, combined with getting some coaching on obtaining a quality surface off the tools, are just what I needed to get inspired again. I'm in the Louisville area, and am interested in getting connected with some local woodturners as well. The last picture is a practice piece from the workshop, with "junk" wood and and no sanding/finishing. I wish I would have spent more time shear scraping to clean up the surface, but was focusing instead on learning his technique and getting another piece on the lathe ASAP, haha.

Hi John, welcome from Tennessee. De-prioritizing sleep is also my strategy! Those pieces are beautiful, especially the little calabash. Really looking forward to seeing more of your work.
