It all depends on what you are selling with the lathe and what a comparable one new is worth.
Some guys prefer to buy secondhand because it is already kitted up and generally cheaper than buying all new gear.
Dont try to be greedy as it will just sit there gathering dust.

A blind guess would be $1300 to $1400, depending on the amount of use and its appearance. Also, has a newer model replaced it? If so, drop the price even more.
If it has variable speed, then it may hold its price a little better.

First it depends on what it is, brand and size. For use machinery in general I will typically pay about 50% of retail unless I really want it and it is in like new condition. Then I may go 60%. If it is an in demand lathe you could probably get more.
As mentioned...brand and model plays a major role here. I've seen Oneways that sold at almost new price.
For me personally, I won't pay for (even like new) item more than 75% of the best brand new deal I can find.

This expresses my basic sentiments on the subject but I'd add one more thing. That's the issue of shipping. If the sale is local (within a hundred miles) of my location I'm probably willing to pay more than if I have to ship a couple of hundred pounds clear across the country.
