New turner in California, working on a Shopsmith 10ER as my lathe. I watch youtube videos to learn how to use my tools, and took an introduction to turning class at local shop. I use carbide tools for my turning, and I enjoy seeing what folks are doing and how they do it. Still working full-time as a software engineer and lots of projects at home, so not as much time turning as I like, but I find it very zen and relaxing.
I often use a blend of 50% pure tung oil/50% food grade citrus solvent on my bowls. Here are some with burnt edging and gold rims. Making progress and enjoying the journey.

Hello Michael! Looks like you’re having fun. Good break from software! I gave up the software years ago for 3D graphics/animation but finally retired to the farm, the horses, llamas, and woodturning! I love to demo, teach the skew, and have great fun making things.

I haven’t been out San Diego way since, yikes, sometime in the 90’s - visited a friend Alan Iglesias, fellow animator, guitar player.

Nice weather there!
