I see a lot of micro motors starting at $80.00 and up. Wanting to stay on the low side to see if this is something I want to do, any suggestions on motors/Colette size and burs

Get one that accepts both 3/32” and 1/8”, otherwise you’ll be very limited. As far as which burrs to get, you could spend hundreds, so just start out with the ones you need for your first project.

$80 seems like it would be low end on quality and longevity. I'm sure you will like it once you try it. Maybe you have a friend or club member who will let you try one and play with it for awhile.

All units that I'm aware of come with both size collets. A little bit of a PITA if you have to change frequently. However, they do make collet adapters to go to 3/32" and 1/16" which just slide into the 1/8" collet ... sweet & simple (about $15). Caveat - they are small and can be lost easily. DAMHIKT.

Been using a Foredom flex-shaft for 50+ years and also have an air-driven hyper speed unit (400,000+ rpm). Burrs, whether steel or abrasive (carbide/diamond/ruby,etc) can get expensive until you settle on what you need. There is, however, a really cheap way to go: ask your dentist! Most dental burrs are (or were) single use items because of the sterilization requirements. If you catch them at the right time, they might just give you a bunch before they throw them away.
