I have been turning some multi axis scoops recently and was wondering if anyone has done any of these on a larger scale say 6 to 8 inch bowl. If so what are some of the methods used for creating a jam chuck for them or what other means were used for hollowing? Has anyone tried using a vacuum chuck to hold them while hollowing?

I use a Vaccuum chuck to hold my Suspended spherical forms for hollowing.
These forms are up to 8" in diameter. should work fine for scoops.
The sphere needs to be rather true to hold in the vacuum chuck and a light touch with the tools is essential. a catch will break the vaccum seal and rough turning will pull the piece off center.
I have successfully hollowed several without tape. however, My process now includes taping the pieces to the vacuum chuck. This virtually eliminates breaking the vaccum seal or pulling the piece off center provided light cuts are taken.
Vaccuum works on principle that the air pressure the surface area pushes the piece into the chuck. the sphere is the minimum surface area for the volume. a good thing when sanding a bad thing for vaccuum but you should get enough to hold it.
