I got this from my neighbor who is cutting a number of trees in the back of his lot. Want to take them to the chapter meeting but not if it is worthless. Wood is light like poplar, has lots of sap like a pine. Had to get out the citrus hand cleaner as a result. Someone called the tree bulk something-or-other. Three photos attached.

Those about 12" in diameter? Very tight growth rings...
You sure it's not a softwood (as in evergreen like pine) being so resinous? If so, then I'd not take it to a chapter meeting there are very few softwoods that turners gravitate towards.

Go look where it was cut. If you find needles, it is some kind of conifer. If you have leaves, that should help identify the tree. Allyn

No needles but large leaves. The tree was on the neighbor's property. I'll scratch the idea. I'm going to give him a list of good wood and woods-to-avoid.

Leaves are on the ground. Hard to separate from all the other leaves as I don't have a clue what the leaves look like. The sap makes me hesitate to take it to the meeting, Tomorrow, going back to the wood pile next door.
