Hello All

I want a little more power for my craft show demo lathe
I am wanting to upgrade my Jet 10-14VS
I need some input from those that have used both the Jet 12-20 VS, and the new Delta 46-460.

The Jet weighs in more by about 28 pounds, and takes up a little more room when packing up for shows.( I would have to add reverse.

The Delta has a 1 horse motor (w/reverse)and a very nice looking ribbed belt.
Whether they go to 16-1/2" or 20" really does not matter for what I demo.

I would like to know pros and cons about both.

Thanks
Jerry

mini or midi

[Jerry, you wont go wrong with the Delta midi.220 to 4000 rpm's. Variable speed with 3 pulleys. Indexing wheel. just about all the bells and whistles you could want. You missed Rockler's sale of 90.00 off, but try Toolnut.A bit heavy, but manageable.I have one and really like it. MaxSIZE="3"][/SIZE]

I've put several posts on the Delta on the Forum. I've been using the production version they gave me for almost two years now with absolutely no problems. I've taken it to over a dozen shows to demonstrate, several club meetings (I'm in two), and to last year's Virginia state woodturning symposium. It's a bit heavier than my old Jet mini, but still manageable (I'm 65) and much, much more capable. I've made somewhere around twenty 12" or so bowls, and countless flower vases and pepper grinders on it. I'm starting to make some rolling pins for next year's show season on it now, and they're at the bed length limit. The only thing it doesn't have is a vacuum system to finish bowl bottoms, and I'll probably add one before long.

Thanks guys
I almost bought last month at Rockler. 110 miles away.
But thought I would wait till this month for a certain wood store to have their Expo days. I called them a couple of days ago, and they said they are no longer a Delta dealer.

Their will be a new privetly owned store only about 14miles from me opening at the end of the month. I think they will carry Delta. and maybe Jet.
And I would like to help support this store and maybe they will carry what I need. Then I will not have to drive 105 West, or 110 east, 130 North to shop.

Jerry
