new lathe stand

Finally got around to finishing my lathe stand. Its made from laft overs mainly from the house construction industry. 3/4 form plywood, 8"x2" laminated beam, 10"x2.5" Douglas Fir.

Height of the lathe is 4' at the centre of the chuck and the bed is 40" long offset on the stand to help clear away the chips etc. Hollow legs to allow extra ballast to be added, width of the leg bottom is around 2'-6''.
Its glued and screwed to gether with PVA glue, not sure how much it currently wieghs all I know I cant pick it up at the moment. :) I will be place some dense rubber pads under the feet, around 3/8 thick.

The cut out on the last shot is not a mistake but to allow me to get at the holding down bolts

Looks like a good job, Hughie.....

I'm one that always gets a kick out of seeing how others build their own tools, fixtures, jigs......whatever!

There are too many people that just throw money at things......and wonder why someone like you, and a few others, continually solve problems in a better, more targeted way.......without spending your whole paycheck to do it! :eek: Heh,heh,heh! ...... There was a time when I had no choice, I had to build my own things, because there wasn't any money!.....it was either make my own, or do without! :D

For that, weight is a plus, but I guess you know that already. So, because you can't lift it, it's better than one of those cheap tool stands down at the big box stores.
