Well OK, I've been doing this for about 3 months now, and thought I'd join and post some of my stuff.

Current setup -
  • Jet JML-1014, with Bed Extention
  • Nova Chuck (came with Lathe)
  • Harbor Freight $35 set of 8 HSS Chisels
  • Robert Sorby 3/8" bowl gouge
  • Woodcraft Slow Speed Grinder
  • Wolverine Jig
  • Vari Grind attachment
  • Skew Attachment
Some of my current projects -

My main area of production is cutting boards. You can see them littered about waiting for glue up when it isn't 100* in my garage. I am also practicing some small bowls, as well as making custom paddles. The one pictured is made from Wenge. In the final pictures is my first real bowl. at 9" diameter it's at just the right size for the little jet. It has bee rough turned, boiled and drying for 1.5 weeks now. Almost done

The workbench -

Working a small bowl - Was told the wood was Kope, or Koppi or something, not Koa though.

Finished Stuff - Kope/koppi bowl, and Wenge Paddle on top of a rough cutting board.

Andrew,

Welcome. I'm a new turner myself, having started last November. This is an excellent place to learn about nearly any woodturning topic.

Some of the best advice that I've received came from the AAW membership, and especially the members of the local turning club that I belong to (Chesapeake Woodturners). It's a great bunch of people and they're always willing to provide help.
