A while back I was talking to a friend who fixes HVAC and other appliances. I was asking him about getting refrigerator pumps for my vacuum chuck. He said he had an old pump that had been given him. He said it had been abused, but he would look into it and see if he could get it to work. I think he just cleaned and replaced a few parts on it. When he brought it over to me it was coated with about 1/4" of grease, it looked ugly. I spent some time cleaning it up, here it is. It works great for my vacuum chuck. It has 1/4 hp and 3cfm.

Looks like the pump that is used to evacuate AC systems. How is the noise level?
 
You may wish to put a good filter system on the intake side. One that removes particlates, moister, and acids. The intake air passses though the pumps oil and crud gets left behind. If the pump is "diposable" don't worry about it, but if not, the regular oil changes are in order.

It is fairly quite. I used to use an air compressor, that was noisy. I think a filter of some sort would be a good idea, I have used in and noticed a smell of oil in the air.

Put an airline barb fitting and a length of hose and exhaust it into a bucket with some newspaper or paper towels. That will keep the exhaust mist down to a minimum (assuming it is an oil filled pump).
