does norfolk pine really grow in southern california or just hawaii and florida??

i want to try my hands on that stuff, but it's hard to find

Yes, Sascha, it is in So. Cal. but I have never found a reliable source for it.
My Dad lives in Seal Beach and I see a lot of Norfolk nearby. You would be pretty lucky to find someone taking one down. You can find it consistently on ebay but it's mostly from Florida. Beware that the shipping will be as much or more that the winning bid for the wood! I turn it whenever I can get ahold of some. It is usually a good seller at galleries.
