Trial run of basket illusion but not a basket?, embellished bowl? collaboration with sister? (she colored), first use of satin clear coat?

I do know that after this one she went to dick blick and bought a bunch more colors. Guess I'd better get busy making something else for her to paint.

I took it to show and tell at my club meeting last night and I didn't know it was a thing that the bead lines are supposed to line up top to bottom. I did not do it that way because technically it's not a basket but just an embellished bowl plus my full index wheel won't be here till tomorrow so then I'll give my sister something challenging to color.

That is nice!
I started buying from Blick about 10 years ago, Pigma archival pens, Faber-Castell products.

I never listen to the artistic and woodturning police who tells me how things are "supposed to be". If insistent, my response is "That's what YOU think."

Agreed. "Supposed to" is for busybodies and mass production.

Amen!
Much of what I turn is idiosyncratic. Quite often people don't know what to think or say. I listen to comments and suggestions, but there are limits. A frequent question is "what is for?" or "what is it?". My basic response is the Art Liestman line "I just make stuff". I don't worry about what it's for. I have gotten some useful interpretations and suggestions.

I'm calling this one "throwing down the gauntlet". Still not a basket illusion, really just an embellished bowl but I'm curious what she comes up with design wise. She went and bought the round graph paper and thinks since it has 12 lines it's going to be easy. Told her its the number around the circumference that's more important I think so the design comes out even.

Is there a site where you can punch in the diameter and other relevant info and preview designs? Thought I read something somewhere but not having any luck finding one.

What you need is selection advise based on love and empathy! Rough out multiple designs on paper, place them separately on the floor with a piece of cheese on each one and let that sweet Boxer choose the best one 😍

Ol Bill went over the bridge last April 9th. No more cheese for him. Vet thinks it was a stroke. It's hard when there's no sign that something is wrong till they're gone.😢
