In the market for a new tool rest. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with nova Teknatool tool rest? The only reason I am considering the nova tool rest is its changeable post. Would prefer a robust tool rest. In the near future I plan on upgrading my jet 1221 which has a 5/8 tool rest post. I’m sick of flattening my tool rest. New lathe will more than likely have a 1 inch tool rest post. I believe I will be able to change the post out without changing all of the tool rest. It looks to me like the nova tool rest has hardened steel instead of cast iron. One of my concerns is the threaded tool rest post may loosen and spin the tool rest while turning. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I tried the changeable rests years ago, both systems have lived in a drawer the last twenty years. the only one I still use is the flat top box makers tool rest and that is just used as a small table for other operations. For the 1221, I would suggest a six inch Robust and sell it with the lathe, of course, you could always keep the 1221 as a backup lathe. Many many years ago, most households only had one car, today, two cars are a minimum... see where I'm going with this??? Go ahead, poll the forum and see how many two lathe members there are... Ok, I jest...
I'm sure swapping posts works, but for me, it didn't follow my work flow, or Modus Operandi. I think I went the changeable post route in the interest of saving money, in retrospect, that seems to have backfired on me... I use a Robust 6 on my Jet 1014vs, small boxes to as big a bowl/platter as the lathe can handle no problems.
I also have the Robust 4, 6 and 12 for my 3520. Right now I'm trying to talk myself into a Robust 9 or 14 inch "J" rest, but only if it comes attached to an AB 3hp long bed with gas assist tilt away and mobility kit...

Very helpful, I will more than likely keep my current lathe. I think for now I am going to stay away from two-piece to rest. Thank you for your insight.
