For those of you who use a Oneway Bowl Steady, you've probably discovered this thing really does help to reduce vibration. It isn't a panacea, though. You will still be subject to vibration, but it's reduced. It is a worthwhile investment for the serious bowl turner.
Over the past couple of months, I've used it several times with great success......but, there is one thing about it that isn't quite right. The two wheels aren't running true to each other. This wouldn't be a problem if we're considering a cylinder shape being turned, but since we're talking bowls with uneven/sloped sides, the wheels work better if they are running in the same line. The reason for this wheel alignment problem is the thickness of the scissor arms that hold the wheels wasn't taken in consideration when this contraption was still a theory in some engineer's head.
Well, the fix is easy enough. Just drop in on the nearest hardware store and get some fine thread bolts that are about 1/4" longer. This allows you to put some spacer washers between the wheel and scissor arm of one wheel.....perfect. I've done a couple of bowls since the modification, and it works better than it did out of the box........"like a charm, so the saying goes"!
Try it.....it's a cheap fix, and it will work better.
