I've turned hundreds of once turned wooden bowls, 6" to 22", drying them in paper bags on the concrete floor, with very very few fatal shrinkage cracks, and love the natural warping as they dry. I was given yestrday a 38" x 20" x 8" at the middle oak burl from a recent storm downed tree. Cut off from one edge a bit and turned two shallow bowls yesterday, now in paper bags. My first experience turning green burl. Not reaqlly interested in roughing out for twice turned later. Anyone have experience once turning green burl? Thanks.

Yes, I use heavy kraft paper (grocery) bags, doubled up, one inside the other, taped closed with painters tape. Never change out the bag. If the item is too large for a grocery bag, either yard trash bags or a role of heavy kraft paper from the local home building center can be used. I store them inside the house on wire shelving so they are in a more constant temp/humidity (humidify the house in winter). Reuse bags or paper multiple times.
