For those who have one of these attachments with an auxiliary tailstock riser, how far do the standard and long outboard tables extend from the headstock? Is the standard length short enough to turn typical bowls while facing the spindle and long enough to get effective use out of the tailstock? I bought a used 2436 with an extra long (10'!) table and am contemplating cutting it down to a more practical length for my shop. Also thinking about adapting the cutoff section for occasional use by joining the sections together (alignment issues?) or boring new attachment holes and swapping it out with the shorter one if needed. I saw a custom built bowl lathe with a detachable tailstock support recently so I know it can be done. My primary interest is in larger hollow forms but having a short bed for easy access would be nice.

This is what I have. Cost $190. May be more than you want to spend but it does the job.

With a piece of angle iron you can make it the length of your bed
