I am interested in turning some open segmented pieces and would appreciated any info as to do's and don'ts on turning technique, how to finish the interior of pieces, and any other helpful hints

I also recommend the book by Bill Smith on open segment turning. It shows how to make all the jigs you need (2) as well as having detailed instructions on making open segmented pieces.
