pen making tools

Depends on your pens. If they are mostly gentle curves or straight areas it is a good tool. In the hands of a skilled turner you can rub the bevel and it's a really great tool. It depends on which Hunter tool and the skills of the turner.
For pens I would recommend the new mini hercules. It can be used similar to a scraper so it's extremely easy to use and leaves a good finish. It is not a good tool for turning small beads and details when used as a scraper. If you tilt it to the side and use it as a bevel rubbing tool it will not only give you a high quality finish but can be used to cut beads and coves.
I did a very short section on the mini Hercules at the end of my Hercules video. I'm not a big pen turner. I've probably done a few dozen or maybe a little more. I have however turned lots of small turnings and the Mini Hercules will let you do them. It is a really great tool for small boxes.
