the brass tip on my PM3520 knock out bar came loose and lost in shavings. Can't get through to JPW Insustries parts to try and get one. Anyone know where I can get a replacement brass tip? Or do you know what the thread pitch is as I thought about just using a brass pan head or socket head cap screw as a replacement. the thread pitch I think is metric but my local hardware store only goes down to 5mm in regular screws and don't even carry brass metric screws. So I can't confirm it by trying their screws.

Thanks!

Do you still have the shavings? If so take em outside in a bucket or wheelbarrow, fill it with water and give it a stir. Pour off the shavings and water in the bushes and look for the brass part that will be on the bottom. Don’t ask why I know this……

Great idea webb. but sadly I tossed the shavings before I noticed the brass tip was missing.

You can carry the bar to nearly any auto parts or hardware store and they should have a metric and imperial external/internal thread sizer. I liked one I saw so much I had the auto parts store order one for me and it now hangs in my shop.

But I agree the brass is not needed. The knockout bar should never need to be used with enough force to damage anything.

I actually dislike the knockout bar that came with my PM3520b (bought used). It has a heavy, sliding, weighted hammer handle. I haven't noticed if it had a brass tip. I far prefer the straight steel bar with a little round knob that came with my Jet 1642 lathes, use one of those instead. Could easily make by epoxying a steel rod into a hole in a turned wooden knob.

However, it would be easy to make a threaded brass tip from a piece of brass rod and a tap. The brass can be turned to size if needed on a wood lathe (with woodturning tools). Get a piece of round brass rod a but longer than needed and hold in a chuck - you can even hold it directly with the jaw slides of a scroll chuck like the Nova and not even need a set of jaws the right size. If the brass thread is female rather than turn down the rod to the right diameter and use a die to make male threads, it might be easier to just drill and tap a matching hole in the brass and connect the two with a length of machine screw cut to length.
