Does anybody know if the 18" bed extension for the 3520A will fit the 3520B if mounted in-line (co-planer) with the bed? The extension for the 3520B is made to mount either to the bed or to the leg, but I wonder if the A-model extension has the same dimensions/bolt pattern?
Any thoughts are appreciated.

I would think so - I put the bed extension from the 3520B on my 3520A without issue
 
I think you're right. The 18" extension for the 3520B (WMH# 6294727B) comes with the tool rest extension because the B-model allows the extension to mount on the leg. The 18" extension for the 3520A (WMH# 6294727) is simply the cast iron extension. From what I've seen, the bolt pattern is the same for the A and B lathes, and Osolnik's website lists the (6294727) as the extension for the 3520A/3520B lathe. What's funny is that the B-model extension is priced at $475.00, the A-model extension is priced at $295, and the only difference between them is the 1 or 2 parts that make up the tool post extender...Powermatic must be desperate for profit these days.:mad:
I'm ordering the A-model extension for my 3520B tomorrow, if it doesn't fit, I'll return it and wait for the cost of the B-model to become reasonable. No Worries.

If you don't need the tool post extender or you have someone with a metal lathe that can make one, then you don't need to pay for it.

Is $180 for the tool post extender a fair price? Depends on your alternatives. If you have to pay a machine shop to custom make one for you, $180 might seem cheap.

Just thought I'd add my $.02. When I bought my 3520B last year, I was told that the bed extension only was no longer going to be available, only the combo kit with the extension and the tool rest post extension packaged together. If you have to buy the combo, you can drill and tap the holes for the lower mounting position on the 3520A leg. Not sure the tool rest extension post is worth $175, but it does work perfectly, FWIW.
