Poplar bark

Is there anyone or a place that I can buy a few poplar tree bark from the trunk of the tree. I would say about 1 foot square should be plenty.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Are you referring to true Poplar (Poplus) or Yellow Poplar (Liriodendron)? You want dried flattened or wet, green bark pealed off big y.poplar logs?

Either one will be good and yes flattened and can be either green or dried. How much am I paying for it?

I have some that you can have, but it may not be quite what you want. What I have is about 1-1.5" thick and 1.5-2" wide, and dry. I don't currently have any square sheets, but finding some wouldn't be hard.

No something far more sinister. Jk the old times used to use poplar bark to spread the shellac evenly onto there woodturnings and I wanted to see if I can do it also. That's what I've heard anyway.

I read a report from an English visitor to India in the 1600s, watching a man turning household utility items while sitting on the ground, using small a lathe powered by a boy across the lathe from him alternately pulling the ends of a cord. He applied shellac by friction against the wood, holding a chunk of lac from a lac tree.

And I thought I was clever when I bought my first can of Mylands friction polish.

poplar bark from a mature tree. Pieces shown are over 12" long, 2-3" wide. Probably not what you're looking for, JJ. It's real easy to find storm downed or cut down poplar around here, and I can look for some of the smooth light-greenish bark, if you want.

If anyone wants some, it would be 'cost of shipping' to you. I've got at least 4 times what's shown in the picture. Nice reddish brown color with laminations, as seen in the pieces that I sliced on the band saw. I made some fly rod grips out of it, and they were really pretty, but also too brittle, unlike oak bark, i.e. cork.
