I had a bowl that I used some homemade abrasive paste on. I didn’t know if I could finish over the wax and found out I can’t. I sanded it down and am putting on a new finish.

I think many of us have tried this at some point :D

Start thinking about the finishing process with what the final finish is and work backwards. Wax before a final finish is only compatible with wax as a final finish. You can put wax over almost anything, but you can't put much more than wax over wax. Oil is very similar.
Most people don't think about that when using a polishing paste. If it has wax as a carrier, it will only work with a wax final finish.

I didn’t actually wax it. I used some homemade abrasive paste on it. The paste has bees wax and mineral oil in it.
