The purpose of this How-Tos, Tips, and Techniques subforum is to share information in the form of a tip, technique, or how-to tutorial. As an example, the content in the "Getting Started with Vacuum Turning/Chucking" thread that describes in detail how to set up a vacuum chucking system provides a good example of the intent of this subforum. In particular, Jeff Jilg's tips are educational.

In addition to text you may include links to YouTube videos that you have created. Again, the objective is to show how something is done. Movies should have a main goal. For example, how to use a bowl gouge, or how to sharpen a skewchigouge.

If you have any suggestions or questions about making this subforum more useful please post them here in this thread.

That is correct. Basically, I am resurrecting a very old Sticky from about 2005 when this forum was first created. Somewhere along the way, it was un-stuck, but recently there have been a number of new threads that were better suited for the Main or Newbie forums. Because the sticky has been gone for so many years, it is not surprising that many users would just look at the forum name as their only guidance about its purpose.

If a discussion in the main or newbie forum leads to somebody posting useful how-to information, please ask them to post a "how-to" over here.

There is another sticky that I will probably remove soon. It had numerous links to tutorials, but when the site was upgraded (both here and the AAW site), all of the links were broken. If anybody is interested in tracking down the new links (if they still exist) please let me know and I'll hold off un-sticking it. It is a good idea which I can envision growing into an index of all of the available how-to threads.

One other recommendation that I have is to create a separate thread for each how-to idea that you have. Otherwise, great ideas can become buried where they go unnoticed.

If you are asking about posting your how to tips and techniques in this sub forum, it doesn't need to be a PDF or MS Word document. All that you need to do is start a new thread and present your tip or technique. Please start a new thread for each new tip that you wish to present.

Of course, as with any discussion forum, anybody will be able to ask follow up questions or suggest additional information. The main point is that this is a forum specifically for presenting information that may be useful to other turners.

You mentioned publication which implies that you are asking about publishing in the American Woodturner. If that is the case, please contact the AAW. They can send you their guidelines for authors and information on how to go about submitting material for publication. I believe that the process for tips and techniques is a bit less formal than it would be for a full article.
