Real big bowl!

I believe Ellis Wallentine who heads up Woodcentral was involved in that build. The stats on how much wood and glue they used was staggering.

Thanks, John. Didn't notice that, got it on the to-do list. Would attract a large crowd at a craft show.

Some things never die. I think that I first saw this about a dozen years ago and it resurfaces every few years. According to Guiness the largest turned wooden bowl measured 4.01 m (13.15 ft) in diameter and 1.03 m (3.37 ft) from base to rim. The bowl was made by Peter Andres and Werner Rumplmayr in Gurtis, Austria on 4 September 2005 The bowl was made from section sof sruce wood and then turned.

When it came to the actual turning, they did everything with handheld gouges on heavy-duty metal tool rests. By the time they were done (20 hours later across three days) they had created more than 650 pounds of wood shavings.

Gotta love it, even if it was initially posted years ago. My wife noted the large pile of shavings. They probably couldn't find a DC system although a Pratt & Whitney jet engine might create enough suction. The noise factor might be a problem, though.
FWIW, I saw a segmented vase in a shop in Blue Ridge, GA a couple of years ago. It was about five feet high and about three feet in diameter. I commented on how big the lathe must be. The lady in the shop said it wasn't turned. I'm thinking the wood was stacked and carved. Any ideas. BTW, the shop sign says no photos as some items might be copyrighted. :(

th

Look up Ed Moulthrop for more very nice large turnings......
