Really neat woodturning video of Richard Oedel at CustomMade.com

The quick editing cuts make it uncomfortable to watch. I am not sure what the goal of the video was. It doesn't particularly show turning technique.

It was hard to watch. the sections are too short to see what he was doing. It did look like he was using the skew as a scraper in one part.

I agree with Alan and John. There should be some sort of central theme or message no matter how simple in each scene without the need for supporting explanatory text and the transitions seem disjointed rather than showing a progression. It would work better if you storyboarded the video so that each shot was planned with a purpose rather than just a bunch of scenes thrown together.

It looks like regardless of intended purpose, every tool is a scraper to the person doing the turning.

I loved it!!!! If you were not a turner and you looked at it I think it would impress them more than and entire process or the use of one specific tool. I took it as a kind of commercial. Also loved the way the hand was slowed down to brush the shavings off the skew that synced up perfectly with the pace of the video... well done!

.... I took it as a kind of commercial. ....

I think it was made for marketing purpose and not for the education of woodturners. ...

Yeah, I believe that you guys are right. But, ... isn't advertising verboten on this forum? If it were in response to something that came up during a discussion in a thread would be one thing, but not as the subject of a new thread. I do not see any malicious intent on the part of the OP -- perhaps didn't read all the rules. Or, is my interpretation too strict? Perhaps more qualified feedback might come from a videography forum.

I donno.... I know this is the guys first post... mine wasn't too long ago but also know that if it was outright advertisement I'm still intact. Seems like if he was just askin for an opine then we might see some more posts and if not then heeyyyy I've seen a decent advert for the masses... sorry if this offends aaw stuff but it just seemed pretty innocent to me

I think it was made for marketing purpose and not for the education of woodturners. oops...Bond said the same thing....

Indeed.... the purpose of the video was to show folks who have no idea what woodturning is that it is an art. The objective is to show them what goes into a turned table leg... and get them excited enough to commission someone on our website to do similar work. It is not meant to be instructional.

Hi there guys, The reason I posted it was because it was a different take on the more typical woodturning content I've seen on the web. I simply thought a group of woodturning enthusiasts would particularly enjoy the video :-)

There is no advertising in the video, except for our logo, and it was not my intention to have you guys buy any commercial service or do anything other than watch a cool one minute video. Hope it wasn't taken as a malicious intent to advertise.... that is not what I intended
