Has anyone heard anything about when this will be released? It's listed on a few sites as being available in October. But I can't find anything definitive.

I've emailed Rikon about this lathe before and never had a response. Somewhat worrying as I own a Rikon 70-220VSR and I'd hate to think this is indicative of their support.

Have you considered the Record Power Herald. Highland Woodworking, in Atlanta, says they are
in stock. Have no dog in the fight, just providing food for thought. Happy hunting.

I do have one of the Rikon 12 inch mini lathes. It has the DC motor, which I don't really like. Main reason is that the ramp up speed seems very slow compared to normal variable speed lathes. Add to that, the red 'emergency' stop button broke, and looking at it, was wondering if the person who designed it still had a job.... I would wonder if this lathe will have the same issues...

Which one do you have? The 70-150 VSP has a 1 hp motor, where as the new 70-1420 has 1.5 hp.... Hoping that will make a difference. It would be nice to see a video review of it. Right now this and the Record Power Coronet Harold are at the top of my list.

It is the 1 hp model, 70/150 VSP. It is okay, but prefer the instant start up of the standard electric motors. I was told that this DC motor will keep torque at lower speeds better than the standard motors. For a 1.5 hp model, no clue about the DC motors. For a standard motor, I would want 220 volt. Long ago, they were kind of fussy about setting the motor parameters up, and needed some work from time to time, and this was with the old Nova lathes. I have turned a few times on the Nova DVR, and was surprised at how much torque it has. You need that for coring with the McNaughton....
