With or without jaws, either is fine. Got one you're not using? I can put it to work. Ideal spindle thread is 1-1/4" x 8, but I can adapt if needed.

Now that you can get them direct threaded to fit your lathe, without the insert, buying new makes a lot of sense. These are seldom discounted much from new in the secondary market anyway.
